Album of the Month

The Tragically Hip's Live at the Roxy is an electric factory, and it could power a city. Recorded at a Hip live show at Hollywood's Roxy Theatre on May 3, 1991, shortly after the release of the band's third studio album Road Apples, it truly captures lighting in a bottle. The band plays at its hardest and most aggressive throughout the hip's career. Gord recites poetry, tells dramatic tales, and other improvisational gems over expanded jam versions of album songs. There's a reason the hip are regarded as a band you had to see live. Highlights include Gord teasing lines from the Hip's next album Fully Completely, a since-dubbed "killer whale tank" version of New Orleans is Sinking, and "double suicide" version of Highway Girl. Live at the Roxy came out alongside the 30th anniversary edition of Road Apples, released on October 15, 2021. It was released standalone on June 24, 2022.
